White House Nannies is tracking the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccines in DC, MD, & VA.

We have been as frustrated as all of you that it has been so difficult for nannies — who are essential workers — to receive the vaccine. We are working hard to stay on top of the latest updates coming out of DC, MD, and VA and are constantly following up with state and local representatives to provide clarifications around the often confusing guidelines about who is eligible and where they are eligible to receive the vaccine.

Below are the most up-to-date information and relevant links that we have for DC, MD, & VA. Please note that information is constantly being updated, so we recommend monitoring these links and signing up for text or email updates.

DC

[Updated 3/18/21]

• Based on a COVID-19 vaccine update sent on 3/18 from DC Health and anecdotal reports from members of our community, it seems that nannies are now eligible to receive the vaccine in DC!
  • *We are noting that there has been a shift in language coming from DC Health— on March 4, only staff working at a “child care facility” was eligible. On March 18, the language was amended to the more general “child care workers.”

Maryland 

[UPDATED 3/30/21]

• Everyone 16+ is eligible to receive the vaccine at the Salisbury, MD Mass Vax location.
• This site is undersubscribed and they are desperate to get shots in arms. They are asking everyone to spread the word.
• DC residents and otherwise ineligible populations are eligible at the Salisbury site. We are working on confirming if Virginia residents are also eligible.

  • Enter Salisbury, MD as the address or zip code of your residence or current location for the site to appear

[UPDATED 3/18/21]

• Nannies are eligible to receive the vaccine in Maryland if they live OR work in Maryland. However, they MUST bring an employer letter clearly stating they work in childcare. Below is a template you can use.
• Nannies should register to receive the vaccine at mass vaccination sites – Why? While Six Flags, M&T Stadium, and the new Charles County Site will take nannies with the employer letter, pharmacies often do not. According to Representative Ariana Kelly, State Delegate representing Maryland’s District 16, “Pharmacies are an option but can set their own priorities and have standards all over the place and hospitals all have slightly different rules (Holy Cross is doing childcare).”

  • Please note that while the nanny profession is not specifically highlighted as an eligible group, it falls within the “Education staff, including K-12 teachers, support staff, daycare providers, and higher education institutions” group.

Virginia 

Nannies fall under “childcare” essential workers and are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Phase 1B.  

Virginia moved to a statewide pre-registration system. If you registered back in January through your local health district, you’ll want to re-register or confirm that your pre-registration is in the state-wide system.  Please use this link.
